Quinta do Vallado Douro Reserva Tinto 2017
Rich, damson flavours, with a great structure. A modern take on a classic blend of Portuguese grapes, it is a rich, brambly wine.
About the winemakerEstablished in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest and most famous estates in the Douro Valley. Once the property of legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, it’s still in the possession of her descendants Francisco and João Ferreira. For almost 200 years, Quinta do Vallado produced only port wines, shipped by the Ferreira Port House (owned by the Ferreira family until late 80s), but are now also a formidable producer of dry white, rosé and red wine. Hand picked and gently handled, grapes used for port wine production are then foot trodden in granite lagares, as well as a small percentage of the grapes used for dry wine. Quinta do Vallado have been producing top quality, single-estate ports and dry wines under their own brand since the early 90s, and have achieved worldwide recognition from leading press and experts. They also have three small wine hotels among their vineyards, making them one of the unmissable places to visit in the Douro Valley
